8th March 2008 will be remembered as the day the ethnic Malays, Chinese and Indian in Malaysia unite against the ruling coalition, the Barisan National. During this fateful day, BN has suffered unprecedented lost of 5 states (Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Perak) in Peninsular Malaysia!
The results for the 12th General Election is nothing short of earth-shaking from a historic point of view. Only in the 2nd time in 50 years has BN lost it’s 2/3 majority in Parliment. This is a significant victory for the people of Malaysia as over the year, BN has grown arrogant, complacent and taking its mandate from the people for granted.
Despite a resounding win for the Opposition, there’s still accusation of fraud especially in the state of Terengganu where BN secured a slim 17 to 15 simple majority. This makes me wonder if phantom voters played a part in tilting the victory to the BN camp.
As DSAI said after the shocking win, this is a defining moment in the country. The people are tired of BN using NEP as an excuse to breed corruption and the “divide-and-rule” fear tactics. BN has sucked the nation dry while the people suffer with bread and butter issues.
It’s time to walk the talk. Now that the opposition has gain the mandate of the people in 5 states, they must live up to their election promise. We give you a chance, it’s time for you to deliver. I’m in particular looking forward to live blog in Parliment promised by Jeff Ooi during his election campaign.
On a side note, 8th March is also a shocking day in the English FA cup. Both of last year’s finalist, Man Utd and Chelsea, are out of the competition!
