That boy Ronaldo!

Wow, Another 2 goals in his pocket! Contrary to his two goals against spurs in the FA Cup 4th round last week, these 2 goals are real classy. No doubt, he is currently the best player in the world.

So… 27 goals now and we are still in January. Looking at his current form, he will most likely break the scoring record of 32 goals from a winger set by George Best a few decades ago. The main challenger for the golden boot award should be none other than Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor.

At the start of the season I was actually a little skeptical that Ronaldo can actually match his 23 goals last season. After a slow start and a 3-match-ban after the 2nd game, his goal scoring rate has been nothing short of amazing! Honestly, I think that he is not as entertaining as last season where he dribbles past defenders with ease and show off his fast feets and stepovers more often. But then again, it’s the end product that counts! Hopefully next season, he do both at the same time.

Of course, his amazing scoring feat is also help by the likes of Rooney, Teves and Giggs. Teves in particular, has impressed me tremendously with this good skills and never-say-die attitude. Rooney, although not at his very best, still contributes so much to the team. While many are criticizing Giggs, I think he is still such an important player. While he is not as fast as before, his vision and crosses are still top class.

GGMU!

Incompetence

Can you believe this guy is the Prime Minister for 26 million people in Malaysia? He can’t even answer simple questions asked by the CNN interviewer. What irritates me the most is that this guy has absolutely no class! Well… that reminds me of the Al Jazeera interviews with Zam (the Minister of Mis-Information) and that MIC guy months ago. The same old story…

Upgrade to 40D or 450D?

I have been considering upgrading my good old 300D bought way back in mid-2004. The 300D has served me well over the years and it is still capable of doing it in near future. So why am I considering an upgrade? In some situations, I found that 300D is slightly limiting.

300D, my current camera (image from dpreview)

300D has the ancient first generation CMOS sensor and DIGIC image processor which isn’t great by today’s standard. The main complain is that noise handling in low-light situations is quite undesirable. With the 17-40mm F4 that I’m using, I find that need to use high ISO pretty often.

The other thing that is bothering me is the small frame buffer in 300D. It has a buffer of only 4 frames (both RAW and JPEG) for goodness sake!! Even the old 20D has a buffer for 23 frames (for JPEG at least, but only 6 for RAW)! This is especially crucial for weddings and events where i find that i missed out important shots because the frame buffer is full!

Other complains are minor. They include slow focusing speed, no AI servo mode, no spot metering, lousy battery life, small viewfinder and small LCD. That’s probably it! For my kind of usage, there isn’t much to complain actually.

guoloong.com version 2.0

Welcome to guoloong.com v2.0

Since the first day guoloong.com was created, it has been largely a photo sharing website. After paying a mere S$12/year extra for a 10 fold increase in storage space, I have decided to expand my website and make full use of the additional space (and also to justify paying for this domain in the first place!).

So… I have decided to setup WordPress, a blog publishing system written in PHP and backed by a MySQL database. Setting it up was easy, although i took much longer than the famous 5 minute installation.

Blogging has been something that I wanted to do for a long time but lack the motivation to start. Having taken the first step to create this blog, the main challenge now for me is to write consistently. What do I intend to write? I guess pretty much anything I feel like - current affairs, photography, soccer, politics, investments, spur-of-the-moment ideas, rants…

As I’m not a big fan of the common photo sharing sites like Flickr, Picasa, webshots and etc, I’ll still be keeping my photo albums in this website.

Lastly, free feel to hang around, give me some feedback on my website, photos or any comments, rants, criticisms, ideas… :)

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a complete city (as compared to Singapore). Apart from great food and a shopping paradise, it has much more to offer. There’s a variety of sights and sounds packed in places like Mong Kok, Tsim Tsa Tsui, Lan Kwai Fong. There’s also the greenery and tranquility of Lantau Island.

My cute little nephew who is 10 months old now! Intriguingly, he’s named after the ex-Arsenal player José Antonio Reyes.

Singapore-Aviva Badmintion Open 2007

My first time attending this annual event. This tournament, being one of the super series, has attracted many top players from China, Malaysia, Denmark and Indonesia. Finally, I got my chance to meet some of my badminton idols like Chandra Wijaya, Tony Gunawan, Choong Tan Fook, Lee Wan Wah and Peter-Gade Christensen.

Sibu Tengah is a tiny island, home to Sibu Island Resort. Wonderful beaches with plenty of sea shells still lying around. They are even have deers and chickens roaming around freely! Photos here are shot with slides and scanned.
