Fletcher and Park

OMG! Darren “Mr. Average” Fletcher whips in a dangerous cross into the box which is met by Ji-Sung “shirt-selling” Park with a brilliant diving header to score the winner against Liverpool.

Well, the Fletcher-Park-Carrick partnership did it again. They did it against Arsenal (twice), they did it against AC Milan, it is no suprised that they did it again.

Come on,  Fletcher-Park-Carrick is hardly world class… how can they compete with your world class midfielders like Gerrard, Mascherano, Fabregas, Lampard, Xavi, Iniesta, Pirlo, Ronaldinho?

19th title is on track. Game on.

Man Utd 2 - 1 Arsenal

Coping with life after Ronaldo wasn’t an easy job for Man Utd particularly against their old nemesis the Gooners. While they were lucky to win this match, they really lack the spark that Ronaldo provides time after time - moments of brilliance.

On the other hand, I thought they did pretty well against a in-form Arsenal side. Plenty of positives from Rooney, Giggs, Nani, Fletcher, Evra and Vidic. Valencia doesn’t look like his usual confident self though as he hesitates to pass the ball quickly or to take on players one-on-one.

I guess we can expect more from this United side in weeks to come as I think they are only on 2nd gear now at most.

What a goal!

Just when you thought Man Utd are in trouble, Cristiano Ronaldo delivered some of his magic once again with this stunning goal!

This goal reminds me of one of those score by Stephen Chow in “Shaolin Soccer” - amazing distance, plenty of power, right at the top corner.

At the end of the day, a historic win at Porto.

8th March 2008, remember this day!

8th March 2008 will be remembered as the day the ethnic Malays, Chinese and Indian in Malaysia unite against the ruling coalition, the Barisan National. During this fateful day, BN has suffered unprecedented lost of 5 states (Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Perak) in Peninsular Malaysia!

The results for the 12th General Election is nothing short of earth-shaking from a historic point of view. Only in the 2nd time in 50 years has BN lost it’s 2/3 majority in Parliment. This is a significant victory for the people of Malaysia as over the year, BN has grown arrogant, complacent and taking its mandate from the people for granted.

Despite a resounding win for the Opposition, there’s still accusation of fraud especially in the state of Terengganu where BN secured a slim 17 to 15 simple majority. This makes me wonder if phantom voters played a part in tilting the victory to the BN camp.

As DSAI said after the shocking win, this is a defining moment in the country. The people are tired of BN using NEP as an excuse to breed corruption and the “divide-and-rule” fear tactics. BN has sucked the nation dry while the people suffer with bread and butter issues.

It’s time to walk the talk. Now that the opposition has gain the mandate of the people in 5 states, they must live up to their election promise. We give you a chance, it’s time for you to deliver. I’m in particular looking forward to live blog in Parliment promised by Jeff Ooi during his election campaign.

On a side note, 8th March is also a shocking day in the English FA cup. Both of last year’s finalist, Man Utd and Chelsea, are out of the competition!

Bracing for winter…

It has been confirmed, I’ll be going to work in Seoul for the next 4-6 weeks.

After checking the weather forecast, I found that Seoul is having a temperature between 5 to -5 degrees, which means that I’ll definitely need to get some winter wear. I have under-estimated the cold weather during my last trip to Seoul (about 5-10 degrees) and suffered from the cold weather. So, i’m determined to be well prepared this time round.

Working there for 4-6 weeks give me the opportunity to appreciate the place and culture better. Also, it’s a chance for me to experience the work culture in Korea.

On the down side, I’ll be leaving my wife alone at home, who is currently recovering from flu, to handle all the household matters. Given the hastiness of this trip, I have to rearrange some of my plans made way before Chinese New Year. I’ll also miss the Chern Ye’s wedding and the elections fever in Malaysia, both in March.

I’ll also miss couple of live matches, notably, United vs Lyons (4th March) and United vs Liverpool (23rd March). On the bright side, I should be around to support my team for the crucial match with Arsenal on 12th April. This is potentially the title decider =)

That boy Ronaldo!

Wow, Another 2 goals in his pocket! Contrary to his two goals against spurs in the FA Cup 4th round last week, these 2 goals are real classy. No doubt, he is currently the best player in the world.

So… 27 goals now and we are still in January. Looking at his current form, he will most likely break the scoring record of 32 goals from a winger set by George Best a few decades ago. The main challenger for the golden boot award should be none other than Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor.

At the start of the season I was actually a little skeptical that Ronaldo can actually match his 23 goals last season. After a slow start and a 3-match-ban after the 2nd game, his goal scoring rate has been nothing short of amazing! Honestly, I think that he is not as entertaining as last season where he dribbles past defenders with ease and show off his fast feets and stepovers more often. But then again, it’s the end product that counts! Hopefully next season, he do both at the same time.

Of course, his amazing scoring feat is also help by the likes of Rooney, Teves and Giggs. Teves in particular, has impressed me tremendously with this good skills and never-say-die attitude. Rooney, although not at his very best, still contributes so much to the team. While many are criticizing Giggs, I think he is still such an important player. While he is not as fast as before, his vision and crosses are still top class.

GGMU!
